Jenna Bush: Nagood

by Pete on Jun.18, 2001, under Articles, Pete

We’ve all heard the news about President Bush’s daughter being arrested for trying to use a fake ID to buy alchohol. I had passed this off, not thinking much of it (except for the fact that she’s an idiot) until the other day, while in the supermarket, I actually heard someone trying to defend her. First thing first: By no means is this an attack at President Bush. While to many people he may appear unstable and unintelligent, I think he has done a fine job with his first 7 months in office. The person at the grocery store argued that Jenna Bush is only a kid, and kids will make mistakes. While this is very true, if you’re the fucking president’s daughter, you should at least have a little more common sense. This incident is not a small mistake either. It’s hard to deal with foreign policy, when while back in your own country the media is having a field day with the fact that your daughter very well could be a raging alchoholic.
Jenna Bush had to have known that using a fake ID would certainly not work in her case. It’s just a little bit conspicuous if you’re the daughter of the most powerful man on Earth, and you’re using an ID that doesn’t belong to you. Being the president’s daughter, she may have thought that because of the fact, she could get away with a few things. However, try to think of yourself in the police officer’s position: had this happened to a person that isn’t of Jenna Bush’s stature, the matter would have been considered trivial. But given the circumstances, would you:
1) Let her off the hook knowing that her prominence in society would garner a massive amount of attention from the media
or
2) Arrest her knowing that her prominence in society would garner a massive amount of attention from the media .
Exactly. I wasn’t a big fan of Chelsea Clinton, but I will praise her with respect to the fact that she did a very good job of doing what she was supposed to do: keep herself out of the public eye. There was no reason for me to be a fan of her nor for me to oppose her, and that’s the way things should be for the Bush daughters.
Now I know that you’re all thinking, “Well what would you have done in her situation, Pete???” Allow me to recreate the scene for you, with me acting as Jenna Bush.
Bartender: So, what’ll ya have?
Me as Jenna Bush: (thinking) Hmm… do I really want to do this? I might not get away with it, and Dad would probably kill me.
Bartender: Well…?
Me as Jenna Bush: (thinking) Hey, I’m the the daughter of the most powerful man on Earth. I should at least wield enough power to have other people buy my drinks for me.
Bartender: Hey, are you ok?
Me as Jenna Bush: (blank stare)
Bartender: Umm…
Me as Jenna Bush: Yes Sir, I’m quite well. As the president’s daughter, I will not indulge you by purchasing an alchoholic beverage. I am not 21 years old and that is illegal. And I would never dream of bringing shame to my father. Good day to you…
That’s the way any person thinking logically would have acted in her situation. What Jenna Bush did, to herself and to her father, is very nagood.
